On the second day of Christmas…

…my true love sent to me: two scheduled monuments and an Inner Distribution Road.

High Bridge is listed as a scheduled monument (1005388) and also has a Grade II listing (1321938). It dates from 1788 and was designed by Robert Brettingham of Hanover Square, London.

Reading Abbey is also a scheduled monument (1007932) and has four separate areas including: the Abbey ruins with Forbury Gardens and Reading Gaol; the hospitium, the remains of the mill and stables. The above ground heritage buildings, ruins and other structures also have listing entries.

Historic England maintain the national list of scheduled monuments and say:

Scheduling is the selection of nationally important archaeological sites. Although archaeology is all around us, Scheduled sites form a carefully chosen sample of them, which are closely managed.
