Conservation Areas

Reading has 15 conservation areas. Reading CAAC has been working with Reading Borough Council (RBC), Reading people and community and heritage organisations to update the current appraisals.

All conservation area appraisals can be found on the RBC website.

So far four appraisals have been updated and completed the process to adoption by RBC:

• St Peter’s (Caversham)
• Castle Hill/Russell Street/Oxford Road
• Christchurch Conservation Area
• Eldon Square Conservation Area

We are currently working on one conservation area review:

• The Mount Conservation Area

We have paused work on two town centre appraisals during the High Streets Heritage Arction Zone project:

• Market Place/London Street
• St Mary’s Butts/Castle Street
