The Market Place/London Street Conservation Area is one of two conservation areas in Reading town centre; the other is St Mary’s Butts/Castle Street. It straddles the IDR starting near Queen Victoria’s statue in Town Hall Square and then going south to the junction of London Street with London Road and Crown Street. It also includes Church Street and S Giles Church.
Our review of this conservation area appraisal, last updated in 2007, has now paused pending reviews of the town centre area as part of the High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) project. You can read the most recent updated draft further down this page.
