Queen Victoria statue benefits from HSHAZ funding

The statue of Queen Victoria in Town Hall Square has benefited from High Streets Heritage Action Zone funding. It has been cleaned and the long lost chains between the bollards at the base have been replaced.

The statue is one of four memorials and landmarks to have works approved at the end of 2022. The others are the Simeon monument in Market Place and the Harrinson Memorial Cross and Zinzan tomb both in St Mary’s churchyard in St Mary’s Butts.

We are very happy to see the chains replaced as we drew attention to their loss in our published draft of the Market Place/London Street Conservation Area appraisal review.
