BACKGROUND
We met with local residents at The Retreat public house on St John’s Street on the evening of 16 June 2022 to progress the community led review of the Eldon Square Conservation Area appraisal.
CAAC member Roger Williams began the review some years ago but he sadly passed away in 2020. We planted a tree in his memory in the King George V Memorial Garden in Eldon Square.
The Eldon Square CA was the first of Reading’s conservation areas to be designated in 1972 and extended in 1982. The current appraisal was written in 2007 and therefore is 15 years out of date.
3 December 2022 we beat the boundary of the CA and reviewed possible extensions.
